Overview

The United States Postal Service (USPS) operates a complex logistics operation to transport mail and equipment between its mail processing and delivery facilities.  While some of the local transportation service within the larger metropolitan areas is provided by postal employees, the majority of the network is serviced by highway contract suppliers.  The complexity of the network requires continuous adaptations, resulting in requests for new service, or contract modifications.  Transportation purchasing in the USPS environment requires technically skilled and knowledgeable personnel who specialize in the commodity, and that are well versed in procurement, contract administration, and contract law.  

Responsibilities

  • Interpret and explain contracts, their terms and their implications.
  • Document terms, data and status of projects in associated systems.
  • Negotiate and update contracts, their rates and their terms with vendors.
  • Draft, edit and verify contracts and their amendments, updating associated schedules.
  • Research and document relevant laws, technical needs and other factors.

Qualifications

  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Security Clearance Type: Public Trust
  • Full background check including drug screening 
  • Strong cost & price analysis skills
  • Other skills/specialties include: Contract Negotiation, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, DoD, Federal Contracts Manager
  • Years of experience: 13-20
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree (highly desired, but not required)
