  • Overview

    The Division of Technology and Network Management (DTNM) is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and enhancement of the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) local and wide area network. This includes end-user helpdesk services, local network engineering and support, wide area network engineering and support, central e-mail systems, central storage systems, central Oracle platforms, central Weblogic platforms, hardware repair, and operational security controls, such as firewalls.

    Responsibilities

    • Knowledge of Checkpoint endpoint security suite, Checkpoint remote access VPN, Checkpoint policy management and Checkpoint firewalls.  Similar knowledge and skills with Palo Alto or Cisco ASA can be substituted
    • Experience with enterprise firewalls, Internet routing and PKI
    • Troubleshooting skills and encryption technology familiarity
    • Practical experience in all aspects of the installation, maintenance and usage of a large-scale local and wide area network
    • Manages network performance and maintains security
    • Monitors system resource allocation and utilization and provides input for capacity planning
    • Familiar with traditional aspects of network operations including, but not limited to: access and core switching (including layer-2 & layer-3), producing high-level      network engineering designs, working knowledge of routers, routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, IEGRP, VPNs, VLANs, encrypted tunnels, encryption technology, wireless technology, web-filtering  technologies, change management process, configuration management, project management, and scheduling

    Qualifications

    • Two (2) years’ experience in Web content filtering firewalls-specifically Check Point or Palo Alto or Cisco ASA and VPN
    • Technical certification (Preferably: Cisco Certified Network Professional or Cisco Certified Design Professional)
    • Must be able to pass a government background check
    • Regular business hours work schedule with some weekend hours as needed.
    • Eight (8) years’ experience in a large organization responsible for administering, operating, maintaining, and securing a large-scale computer network
    • Five (5) years of experience in supporting a complex back-end firewall infrastructure environment covering all aspects of firewall administration such as hardware, operating system, encryption tunnels, gateway-to-gateway VPNs, TCP port exemptions, day-to- operations of firewall rule sets, backup and restoration of management consoles, firewall OS, and rule sets.
    • Three (3) year's in testing and implementing PC LAN technologies and computer system applications
    • Three (3) year's networking administration experience in a large organization or corporation
    • Above average knowledge of computer network telecommunications, firewall, Windows Server operating systems, and TCP/IP protocol
    • Thorough knowledge of PKI and supporting technologies
    • Thorough knowledge of network management protocols and related standard tools
    • Thorough knowledge of network-based application software such as Exchange, Oracle, DNS, DNSSec, DHCP, and Internet-Based Domain Naming services and registration process
