  • Overview

    The United States Postal Service (USPS) operates a complex logistics operation to transport mail and equipment between its mail processing and delivery facilities.  While some of the local transportation service within the larger metropolitan areas is provided by postal employees, the majority of the network is serviced by highway contract suppliers.  The complexity of the network requires continuous adaptations, resulting in requests for new service, or contract modifications.  Transportation purchasing in the USPS environment requires technically skilled and knowledgeable personnel who specialize in the commodity, and that are well versed in procurement, contract administration, and contract law. 


    • Responsible for preparation and verification of contracts and associated paperwork to prepare a complete contract package.
    • Assist in fuel indexing updates and with CPI adjustments.
    • Assist with fuel reallocation.
    • Review and update wage determination and modifications.
    • Communicates with suppliers to collect specific contract information and to resolve discrepancies.
    • Negotiate and schedule service changes.
    • Conducts a variety of data research.
    • Opportunity to cross train in; renewal, solicitation , contract award , market research and cost estimation.
    • Works on special supplier projects, such as; economic and pricing analysis.


    • Must be a U.S. citizen.
    • Must be able to obtain a Public Trust Clearance with USPS (1-2 months); pass a full background check including drug screening. 
    • Education: Bachelor degree in a business related discipline supported by a minimum of 24 credit hours of business.
    • Years of Experience: 0-2
    • Skills/Specialties include: Contract Negotiation, Supplier Management, Contract Modification, Pricing Analysis, Purchasing, and Data/Market Research.
    • Skilled in Microsoft Office, extensive excel experience is preferred.
    • Strong analytical and decision making skills.
    • Demonstrated collaborative communication skills with varied stakeholder groups.
    • Strong written communication skills.
    • Experience and or interest in supply chain management; specifically procuring contracts for services desired.
    • Must be able to work a full-time schedule, 40 hours/week.
    • Office environment relaxed business casual
